At the Advanced Medical Development Center, we work to support researchers in clinical cancer research. We comply with the Clinical Trials Act to protect subjects, and engage in high-quality clinical research, in order to contribute to the progress of cancer treatments and improved therapeutic outcomes.

Clinical Studies and the Role of the Center

Research on human subjects is known as “clinical research,” and prospective clinical research studies that aim to elucidate the effects of some form of medical intervention are known as “clinical studies” (as defined in the CRC Textbook, published by the Japanese Society of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics). Cancer treatment as a whole has developed through the process of scientifically and ethically comparing new treatments to conventional treatments, to determine which of the treatments is superior. At Toyama University Hospital, a number of our medical departments participate in multi-facility clinical studies. Clinical studies must be conducted under the strict rules of the Clinical Trials Act, but it is impractical for doctors to also handle the vast amount of administrative work involved, in addition to providing medical care. The Center was established to provide support for this administrative work, as well as other tasks such as data management and scheduling. In addition to performing high-quality clinical studies and contributing to improved cancer therapeutic outcomes, we also keep a vigilant eye on patients who participate in clinical studies, to ensure respect for their human rights.
