We have established the Outpatient Chemotherapy Center, and actively work to provide outpatient treatment, in order to help improve quality of life for cancer patients undergoing drug therapy. Our staff includes ten full-time nurses and four pharmacists. We strive to create a friendly, calm environment, where patients can feel relaxed and at ease during IV therapy.
In the past, drug therapy for cancer ordinarily required hospitalization. With recent advances in drugs and other measures to help with the characteristic nausea and lethargy of anti-cancer drugs, though, outpatient chemotherapy is more practical than ever. However, assistance from a staff of cancer treatment experts is key to safely administering outpatient chemotherapy.
We established the Outpatient Chemotherapy Center in 2006 to meet the demand for outpatient treatment. With each passing year, we treat more patients, and to accommodate these increasing numbers, in August 2020, we expanded to eight beds and sixteen recliners, allowing for up to 24 simultaneous patients.
Our nurses assist patients, using their expertise to provide safe, comfortable, and reliable chemotherapy, with excellent care. The nurses also give patients self-care suggestions based on their everyday life and work, so that patients can continue to live their lives alongside outpatient treatment at the hospital.
Managing side effects is an important part of safely providing outpatient chemotherapy. Our pharmacists work together with our doctors and nurses to support safe chemotherapy treatment. Indeed, a unique feature of the Center is that we always have two pharmacists on duty. Pharmacists are primarily responsible for checking the specifics of prescriptions, preparing drugs, and providing patients with guidance on these drugs.
In recent years, we have also actively worked to share information directly with patients’ pharmacies, in order to ensure safer outpatient chemotherapy.
